Well a couple of weeks ago,I was coming home from a ride and began losing my lights intermittenly,so I figured it was time to dig into my electrics,I Was ,of course "putting it off" til I had time!(I suddenly had time)I was just going to straighten it out ,(?!)and began with the handle bar wireing harness's,the next night I was so far into it and the mess the P!O! Had made straightening it out I cut the old one right out and grabbed the new harness I had bought last winter,I never did much electrics and was electric shy, however by the third night I was nearly finished, when I tested it it it worked but there was a short tripping the relay,I spent the next three days learning how to find a short, when I tracked it down it was that old problem of the electric start battery grounding on the oil bag if you don't set it in just right! Something I have always known about but forgot about ,ARRGH,!after that and with alittle extra work I had the old girl in factory fresh condition, kill switch, start button,a new main circuit breaker ,turn signals, and all new solid wireing system with no tape, loose pinch connectors or crap connections, and whole new knowledge gained about the machine and electrics,I also in the process, decided the paint job was crappy and did that too! AND,fixed the sprocket seal that was leaking,I finished all this last Wed.did the final tests everything is good in Shooter land right? Then I lost the only ign. Key.......looked every where, went back to every store, nobody had it,had a beautiful bike everything working and no key,ARRGH,, again went to autozone got an after market one found out later it was not perfect but could work, but I went to NAPA and ordered the right one, after checking there for my key,I went home after telling the guy the key would turn up after I installed a new switch,I got ansy and decided I would just put the autozone switch in(I just wanted to ride!,I installed it,I have a bike!!!next day the good switch is at NAPA and my buddy is up from Va. With his Deuce,so I go down to pick it up(I can ALWAYS use an extra ign. Sw. ,right?),I go to the counter and ask about the switch,he says yes we got it ,and ohhh, are these your keys.? He's smiling and says "the whole time we went through that catalog yesterday (1/2 hr.)those keys were right by my elbow !"(I had not asked him ,personally about the missing keys, just another guy that worked there !)I knew they would turn up after I installed a new one,ARRGH! But Oh Well !there's seldom any perfect job and so far the only problem I've had is getting used to the dang kill switch !
Just thought you'd appreciate, the results of my last 2-3weeks of work ,after it was over and done I can laugh about it!
