I have a 2004 Sportster 883 Custom...has the stock low and fat 4.2 gallon tank...God, I hate the look.
I want to go to a traditional peanut tank.
So I bought a couple 2004 era HD peanut tanks (used).
Pulled the fugly fat low tank off.
Tried to put a peanut tank on it....won't fit. Front top of tank hits on the speedo.... simply not enough clearance.
I'd like to know what to do to get a peanut tank to fit with as FEW modifications as possible.
Taller risers from another year?
Unweld the tank from the mounting strap, move the tank further back and reweld it?
As I said I want to do it as painlessly and easily as possible...I don't want to change anything more than I have to. I don't want to have to go to longer cables and rewiring everything if possible.
I would guess others have encountered this problem as well.
Please gimme some advice. Thank you in advance.
