Ok; some of us will see 100 deg days two months from now. This is a review of one product designed to reduce engine heating extremes. Items like customer service, installation, satisfaction with operation, and reliability will be reviewed.
There are many ways to reduce heat buildup and this one was interesting. I purchased an F.C.S. Full time Cooling System from wardspartswerks.com.
Jason Ward designed the mini-fan system for his own B.T. Harley and is now manufacturing a mature design. Pictures on my '99 1200C will be posted soon but it looks nearly the same as Mr. Wards bike on his website.
Purchasing the product using Paypal was easy and emails confirmed sale and delivery which was quick and it was well packaged. The instructions were good and I often do automotive and electrical work so install was an easy one hour.
My '99 1200C has the stock horn and Enrichener knob and the fit was perfect using simple hand tools. Last year I replaced a leaky fuel petcock in this area and I would advise not installing the F.C.S. if you have a leak. I struggled a bit with the battery connection but it fit good and wire length was perfect.
The fan came with a thermal switch to fit between the cylinder fins and so far I'm very pleased with the on/off points and overall operation. Ward's web page has a pull down menu leading to the thermal switch instructions. Today is only 70 deg so the fan only ran during extended idling and turned off in motion. It makes a muted sound but not noticeable with loud pipes and a helmet on. It also turned on stopping after a highway ride and briefly after the engine was turned off.
Next will be pic's and operation on a longer ride.
:)
