So I was lapping the valves on my heads today and the first 3 I did looked fine. The 4th one not so on the good. I have a very thin contact on the exhaust valve. The valve itself cleaned up nice all the way around but the seat in the head looks good about 2/3 of the way around then gets really thin on the other third. Gonna try and post a couple pics. The guide seems plenty tight...no excess play. My question is it looks to me like this valve actually sits deeper than the others, although it could just be my imagination, but I'm not sure if there is enough area to grind the seat. I know it may not be possible to tell just by the pic but the one knowledgeable bike mechanic in the area I'm in says he wouldnt trust anyone around here to do the heads. He says" they dont know Ironheads". He said he knows of a couple guys over the years who actually had to buy new heads because of bad head work. My only real option is to search out someplace in Pittsburgh which is over 100 miles away. Mainly looking for any feedback as to whether anyone can tell by the pics if I need a new head or if this is salvageable. Can you put new seats in these things? Any help will be appreciated. I knew this rebuild was going to smooth!! Lol
