Friday Surgery

Since my sporty is now my only means of transportation, it absolutely must run. Before my truck went south last year, I proactively ordered a cycle electric regulator and the stator promptly failed before the regulator arrived. I ordered the Twin Tec ignition and my coil failed. I've been putting pieces and parts together and have been hampered by a graveyard shift and being on call over the holidays. All that changes tomorrow morning when I get off my last graveyard shift!

First up are the Michelin Commander II tires. I can almost see the air in them. There is nothing wrong with my stock clutch, but I'm going in there and an Energy One clutch will be installed with a new angular contact bearing in the assembly. This will be a perfect time to remove the starter and put solenoid contacts and brushes in. I'll also give my warrantied Odyssey battery a third strike. I'll make longer battery cables out of 2 gauge wire before I install it. Next in line is the 1-3 countershaft gears. I'd really like to change the drive belt and save the old one as an emergency spare. But I just don't have the cash right now. I also have a new chain tensioner if needed.

I'll also install a new set of brake pads on the front. I really need a rotor, but that'll have to wait until tax time. I plan on getting the floating rotors and Lyndall pads.

I also really need to put the gasket set on the engine, but that's going to have to wait a couple weeks until I can get some SS head bolts and pushrod tube bases from Hammer.

I'm sure I wouldn't be doing half of this work without the knowledge provided on this fantastic forum!

I do have one question. This bike has 47K miles on it and I have never touched the swing arm. Should I pull it, have a look see and probably grease it?
