Hello all, I've been lurking around here for a while and I figured this was a good way to introduce myself
My Burly sissy bar arrived yesterday and I know there has been interest in them but I don't think too many people have bought them yet so here's my thoughts on it.
I got it from J&P since it had free shipping and for gold members it's only $230 though it looks like it's out of stock now. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/127-386
I finally decided to suck it up and get a sissy bar because I want to be able to strap bags to it and also to get the old lady off my ass both figuratively and literally. I decided on the tall bar as the short one looks like it won't do anything but give your passenger a little bump to rest their butt against. Total height for the tall bar is 22 inches from base to tip and 15 inches from the passenger seat to tip, so it sticks up 15 inches higher than the seat and fender. I was a little worried about it being too tall as I don't want to crazy looking super tall bar but with it mounted I'm quite pleased with the proportions.
The build quality seems good, nice welds and very solid feeling, has a nice ring to it if you tap it with a wrench. The black powder coat is resistant to scratching and will probably last through lots of bungee cords strapping bags to it. The pad is nice and small so it doesn't look overbearing though the shape of the bar makes it pretty comfy even with the pad removed.
Install is very simple, just remove the four fender support bolts, maneuver the bar into place and then install the supplied hex head bolts. Instructions are included but you don't even need em. I of course complicated things with the way I mount my rear signals so a trip to the hardware store for some all-thread was in order.
Overall I'm pleased, I like the simple lines over the bulky quick detach options available from the Motor Company.
