Need Help!!!

Alright folks... I need some help and sage advice.

A couple of months ago I bought a '97 XL1200S with approx 20,000 miles on it. The guy I bought it from had it tuned up... Plugs changed, carb cleaned, etc prior to turning it over to me. It ran okay at first but would take forever to warm up and I'd have to ride with the choke out for a few miles before it would idle on it's own. The performance started to slack off a bit and I started getting a lot of carb farts, backfires etc. The petcock began to leak so I changed that to an Arlen Ness non-vacuum. I plugged the vacuum line and changed the fuel line. Still wasn't running perfect so I changed the Screaming Eagle AC out for a Roland Sands one. Performance got even worse to where I could barely keep the bike running so I decided to rebuild the carb and replace gaskets.

When I pulled the carb it was filthy so I gave it a good cleaning and also replaced the jets with a CV Performance upgrade kit. Slow Jet to a 45 and the main jet to a 180. Replaced the needle, springs, accelerator pump diaphragm, seals, etc. I also replaced the gaskets on the intake manifold as well as the exhaust. I followed the instructions I found on here for Drop-Tuning the carb but still can't get the bike running. I even switched back to the Screaming Eagle AC to see if that was the issue but it didn't change anything.

I'm at an impasse and have no idea what to do now. Any suggestions or input would be great. I've got the Clymer manual and haven't had any luck there. Help!!!!!!
