Last night I had to rip out an older (3+ year) HID kit that had failed from my 2005 883C. I'm looking at the DDM tuning kits everyone here seems to like. They're about a quarter of the price of the one I removed and seem simpler and smaller, but I have two questions:
1) 35W or 55W? I would typically think brighter is better, even though I don't ride much at night. However, the DDM site mentions heat being a potential issue in closed systems. Anybody have experience with the 55W version in the Custom headlight can? Too hot? Too bright?
2) I no longer have the original bulb protector because the old HID kit replaced it. Looks like the DDM kits are more drop-in and won't come with the bulb protector either. Is that right? Do I need to replace the protector to use the DDM kits?
