Ironhead 73 rebuild

I'm replacing my front brake light switch. I searched the forum and I understand what is involved but have one question. In the pictures see the housing, it has a brass insert that was used to hold the old plastic switch. When I tap the hole for the new threaded switch, should I take out the brass insert or leave it in and tap through it. It looks like the brass insert is pressed in and the new threaded switch would fit through it.
What is the preferred way. I can't seem to find the old style switch OEM 72001-69B.
