how do you know if the forks need a rebuild?
when i first got ths motorcycle 3 years ago -- i had the forks off.
I replaced the fork stem; the cups; and bearings. is there any kind of pre load on the bearings?
also when i laid the forks down; all the oil leaked out. so i just turned them upside down to get all the oil out, and refilled. In the process a spring fell out.
i can't tell if my motorcycle really needs fork rebuild, or if its in my head; or if its just a 30 year old motorycle. the dealer told me my forks are messed up years ago, during an unrelated servicing, but they also told me my brakes were messed up when they noticed they were free floating :frownthre i also replaced the swingarm bearings since then and noticed a dramatic difference i.e. no more shimmying
but my indy wrench said they were messed up too recently, but then quickly changed the subject & said you should rebuild your brake calipers--even tho they are not leaking--cuz they not grabbing as good. And he has a point there.
i got 14,000 miles on the clock; i doubt they are original; but then i doubt a fork rebuild is really in order before 20,000 miles; and bet i dont have that many either.
