Hey guys,
I recently ordered a bunch of new gaskets, etc so that I could rebuild the carb on my 2001 xlh 1200. I was installing the Arlen Ness Big Sucker air filter (more ergonomic) so decided to clean the carbs and rebuild ahead of time. I also noticed that might pipes may not be stock, and so i bought 45 and 175 jets to possibly replace the 42 and 170s currently in there.
Long story short, I rebuilt the carbs, ran the bike, it ran way too rich. So I put the original jets back in to start over. Today I started the bike and still had dark smoke and fouling plugs. I also could start the bike the second time (although, I havent set throttle cables up or set idle speed screw). The bike seemingly always ran lean... any thoughts on where I could have gone wrong that my bike would be running richer than when I started?! Its frustrating as I was extremely meticulous. I also dont think there is a leak from the manifold or anything. Im very confused.
Thanks so much for your help,
Matt
