Ironhead Blowing oil

:banadanc Hello All! :banadanc

I'm new to the forum and to the world of IronHeads!! I have been working on harley's for a while now for my local police dept. Unfortunately as long as I've been at this job I've only had the pleasure to work on the big twins.

I recently bought a 78 Ironhead that is sort of a basket case. The guy who I bought it from told me after having the bottom end redone he put 20 miles on the motor and it started to push oil out the crank vent. The bike was partially disassembled so I figured I'd do some research and dive in.

I ask one of the old heads at work what he thought and he seemed to think the breather timing was off. Therefore I pulled the cam cover (before reading up on it) and found out it was changed in 78 to the diaphram style breather on the cover. I did take apart the breather and found the diaphram missing. I'm thinking this may be the reason it's blowing oil.

Also, I found out by trial and error the pushrods should be deadjusted... When taking off the cam cover, I pulled out a cam and some shims dropped in the pan... :frownthre Any thread on here with step-by-step instructions how to reinstall and time the cams???

Does anyone have any advice? I would greatly appreciate the input...
:dunno

P.s

My son really wanted the dancing bananas in the post somewhere, sorry. :banana
